Similkameen Responsibility

A commitment to our people, community and forests

Our Woodland dept. practices the highest levels of forest stewardship, forest planning, environmental management and is accountable to The Forest Practices Board.

Created in partnership with BC Hydro, the Gorman Lumber Energy Mgmt. Program has significantly reduced energy consumption across all our divisions.

We recognize that the success of our company extends beyond our products and into the ethical standards we uphold. Ensuring that child and forced labour are absent from our supply chain is a fundamental part of our commitment to responsible business conduct.

Supporting what supports us.

At Similkameen Forest Products, we believe responsibility extends beyond the products we make. Our business depends on the people, communities and forests that surround us, and we believe in supporting each of them for the long term.

We are guided by a commitment to responsible business practices, safe and respectful workplaces, strong community relationships and sustainable forest management. We know that long-term success depends on taking care of the resources and relationships that make our work possible.

Our People

Our people make our company. We are committed to creating a workplace where safety, respect, inclusion and opportunity are part of how we work every day.

This means investing in training and development, encouraging employees to speak up and contribute ideas, and creating an environment where people can build meaningful, long-term careers. We believe a responsible business starts with supporting the people who make it successful.

Our Community.

The Princeton mill has long been an important part of our local economy, supporting not only the people who work here, but also the contractors, suppliers, families and businesses throughout the Similkameen and surrounding region.

We are committed to being a positive, long-term presence in the community. This means building strong relationships, supporting local initiatives and working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders connected to our operations.

We believe the strength of our business is closely connected to the strength of the communities where we live and work.

Our Forests

The forests of British Columbia are the foundation of our business and a resource we never take for granted.

Responsible forestry requires a long-term view. From careful planning and harvesting to reforestation and the protection of environmental values, sustainable forest management is about ensuring our forests continue to provide ecological, economic and social benefits for generations to come.

As part of the Gorman Group, Similkameen Forest Products is supported by an organization with established commitments to sustainable forest management, environmental planning and responsible fibre sourcing. Our forestry practices are guided by formal stewardship and environmental management frameworks designed to protect soil, water, biodiversity, wildlife habitat and long-term forest health.

A commitment to the environment.

We are continually looking for ways to use resources responsibly and reduce the environmental impact of our operations. That includes improving manufacturing efficiency, maximizing the value of the fibre we process and finding productive uses for manufacturing residuals and by-products.

Responsibility also means continuing to look for better ways to operate. Through investment, innovation and continuous improvement, we are working to build a business that creates value from British Columbia’s forest resources while respecting the environment that sustains them.

Looking forward

Responsibility is not a single initiative or policy. It is an ongoing commitment to make thoughtful decisions, build strong relationships and take a long-term view.

At Similkameen Forest Products, we are building for the future by supporting our people, strengthening our communities and respecting the forests and environment that make our business possible.
