The Similkameen Energy Management Program
At Similkameen Forest Products, we recognize that responsible manufacturing means continually looking for ways to use energy more efficiently. As a member of the Gorman Group, we are committed to reducing energy consumption, improving operational efficiency and minimizing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations.
Through ongoing monitoring, investment and process improvements, we look for practical opportunities to make our mill more efficient while maintaining the quality, consistency and performance our customers expect.
Our approach includes:
Monitoring energy use to identify trends, opportunities and areas for improvement.
Improving operational efficiency by evaluating processes and equipment to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
Investing in technology that can improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce energy requirements.
Exploring lower-carbon solutions including opportunities for electrification, fossil-fuel reduction and load displacement.
Maximizing the value of wood fibre by finding productive uses for manufacturing byproducts, including renewable materials that can contribute to clean energy production.
These efforts are part of the broader Gorman Energy Management Program, which supports energy awareness and efficiency initiatives across Gorman Group operations. The program includes participation in energy-management initiatives with BC Hydro and FortisBC and a commitment to continually identifying new opportunities for improvement.
